Christmas should be like Vegas beginning on December 1

1 Nov

Here’s today’s COMMENT FROM AN OLD FART: Moi gets many press releases, but this one caught moi’s eye. Here is a portion of the press release.

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. November 1, 2012SOASTA®, Inc., the leader in cloud and mobile testing today announced the findings of its 2012 Holiday Readiness survey that discovered that 78% of American adults think stores should not play Christmas music and 75% think stores shouldn’t put up Christmas decorations until after Thanksgiving.  However, nearly the same percentage of adults (75%) felt stores should have a specific “Cyber Monday” website that can handle millions of people shopping for the holidays at once while 73% of Americans felt that stores should have a dependable app for smartphones or tablets that can easily handle mobile sales for the holidays.  In fact, a majority of Americans (55%) now report owning a smartphone (48%) and/or a tablet (23%) and 16% saying they own a more basic e-reader like an Amazon Kindle or Nook.  This information comes from SOASTA’s survey of 2,346 American adults aged 18 and older conducted online on its behalf by Harris Interactive.

The results of our Holiday Readiness Survey show that Americans think stores shouldn’t ‘Deck the Halls’ until after Thanksgiving,” said Tom Lounibos, SOASTA CEO.  “An overwhelming majority of Americans want stores to focus on making sure their websites are ready for Cyber Monday and that their mobile apps are capable of handling the shopping demand.  So instead of decorating for the holidays, stores should test their online presence instead, making sure their websites and their mobile apps can handle millions of people from all over the world at the same time.”   For more information, please go to

People don’t want Christmas to start in July because by December 23, Christmas carols make people postal and they are ready to strangle Santa.

Moi discussed the Christmas, NOT the holiday season in It’s Merry Christmas, Dammit!

Moi dropped by the dollar store today to find out what is happin in the world of the peeps. The dollar store has Christmas stuff out already. Say what? It’s not even Thanksgiving yet. That got moi thinking about tolerance and what all those P.C. folks define as tolerance. Usually, it means my way or the highway. Here is a definition of tolerance:

a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion, nationality, etc., differ from one’s own; freedom from bigotry.

a fair, objective, and permissive attitude toward opinions and practices that differ from one’s own.

Notice the emphasis on “permissive.”

Moi really doesn’t have any problems celebrating any person’s holiday which has a buffet attached and if your holiday has a wine toast, moi is there early and will help you set-up. Moi is secure in what she believes so she can wish you a Happy Chanukah (Hanukkah), Eid, Festivus, Happy Birthday Madeline Murray O’Hair, and Happy My Dog Looks Cute, whatever. It is all about wishing the other person the best.

Moi loves Christmas, it should have trees, lights, and glitter. If one wants to throw in a Menorah, Crescent, and Uncle Festus, that is fine. Just put lights on them. Christmas should look like Vegas.

The great thing about being an OLD FART is folks know one is politically incorrect a great deal of the time. So, Merry Christmas, Dammit.

Debatewise writes in the article, The Christmas season should not start until 1st December:

All the Yes points:

  1. Give people who work in retail a break
  2. Remove some of the commercialisation
  3. Advent calendar says so

All the No points

  1. Allows for preparation
  2. Christmas is the season of good will and positivity. Surely this is a good thing we want to last as long as possible.

In moi’s opinion, the real reason is starting Christmas too early is just tacky.

So, let’s wish everyone a Merry Christmas at the appropriate time. The Christmas Season should start around December 1.

To every
thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven

Ecclesiastes 3:1
